Member of Parliament for the Nyiaeso constituency, Dr Stephen Amoah, says he was of the view that Kennedy Agyapong would win the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer election held on January 31.
He explained that the contest was tough and highly competitive, involving five strong candidates, all of whom mounted vigorous campaigns.
"It was a very tough task for everyone who contested. I was thinking Kennedy Agyapong was going to win this election, trust me, with my almost thirty years in politics," he said.
"When you're talking about the love my constituents have for me, everybody knows they really love me greatly; that one is a fact. The love is very tremendous, I was thinking we were going to win because of the illustration of their excitement and the love they have for me, and Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, so I was hopeful," he added.
Dr Amoah disclosed that although he was initially aligned with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, he later shifted his support to Kennedy Agyapong, together with some other colleagues, based on his conviction at the time.
He has since called for unity within the party, urging members to put the contest behind them and rally together to face the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.
