Attram De Visser staged a spirited second-half comeback to draw 3-3 with newly promoted Premier League side Debibi United as the fifth edition of the X1 Division One League Super Cup got underway at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Monday.

The Accra-based side found themselves 3-1 down in the opening Group A fixture after Debibi United took control of the game, but goals from Abdul Majid Maswud and Thomas Okyere completed the comeback and earned Attram De Visser a point.

Debibi United opened the scoring through Ibrahim Alhassan before Attram De Visser Junior restored parity to make it 1-1.

Kwadwo Antwi then restored Debibi United's lead before Clement Nketiah extended their advantage to 3-1.

Attram De Visser responded through Abdul Majid Maswud to reduce the deficit before Thomas Okyere completed the comeback with the equaliser.

The result saw both teams pick up a point as Group A action began, with former Premier League campaigners Real Tamale United scheduled to face Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs in the second match of the opening day.

Before kick-off, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, performed the ceremonial kick-off to officially launch the fifth edition of the competition.

Attram De Visser's comeback was inspired by Abdul Majid Maswud, who was named Man of the Match after scoring his side's second goal.

“We were giving up, but our coach backed us up with his words and motivated us to come back and equalise when we were down,” Maswud said after the game.

“The group is very tight and the teams are well experienced and good. So, we have to come up with a good game and good tactics so that we can overcome them and, at the end, become the winners.”

Debibi United assistant coach Francis Makiya attributed the collapse to a lapse in concentration after his side had built a two-goal lead.

“We led 3-1, but I think in the last hour, there was a lack of concentration from my boys and Attram were able to come back,” Makiya said.

“I think they’re doing well, but there is more room for improvement.”

For Attram De Visser coach Godwin Attram, the tournament provides an important opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the new season.

“It’s a very exciting pre-season tournament and good for the players,” Attram said.

“We just want to see team organisation, structures, advantages and disadvantages of how the team attack and defend.”

The tournament is sponsored by Hoshii International Limited, producers of X1 Energy Drink and Hoshii Instant Rice, with the company represented at the opening day by Ivy Udanoh.

Udanoh said the partnership is aimed at strengthening the company's connection with football supporters while creating greater brand awareness.

“Ultimately, the partnership will help us build brand awareness and also get a stronger connection with the football community,” Udanoh said.

“So far, it’s been positive and quite exciting to see people passionate about football coming together to support their team and the brand as a whole.”

The opening Group A fixture produced a six-goal thriller, setting the tone for the remainder of the competition as the participating clubs continue their preparations for the new campaign.
