A senior figure in the Bawumia campaign, Hassan Tampuli, has credited former Second Lady Samira Bawumia with playing a pivotal role in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s impressive performance in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions during the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries.

Mr Tampuli said the two regions demanded particularly intensive campaigning, noting that Mrs Bawumia’s involvement proved crucial in consolidating and expanding support for the former Vice President of Ghana.

The Member of Parliament for Gushegu explained that her presence on the campaign trail consistently energised party members and delegates, helping to either grow the campaign’s numbers or maintain its momentum in highly competitive areas.

Mr Tampuli also commended the regional campaign teams, especially in Ashanti, for their commitment and resilience, describing their efforts as relentless throughout the campaign period.

“She had a clearly defined role and executed it very effectively. Any time she visited an area and we conducted our assessments, we saw our numbers improve or at least stabilise. In both Greater Accra and Ashanti, she was our talisman. The Ashanti team in particular worked tirelessly and hardly rested throughout the campaign,” he said in an interview on Channel One TV on Monday.

Dr Bawumia won the NPP presidential primaries with 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast, securing the party’s mandate to lead it into the next general elections.

Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes (23.76 per cent), followed by Dr Bryan Acheampong with 36,303 votes (18.53 per cent). Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong trailed with 1,999 votes and 402 votes respectively.

Regionally, Dr Bawumia recorded strong performances in Greater Accra with 19,820 votes and in Ashanti with 19,700 votes, outcomes his campaign team says were significantly influenced by Samira Bawumia’s mobilisation and outreach efforts.
