Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has advised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a spirit of reconciliation while remaining cautious of potential internal saboteurs.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 3, Atik Mohammed praised Dr. Bawumia’s open-door approach but warned him to be vigilant.
“Dr Bawumia should run as he has always done, a conciliatory and open door policy. However, in doing so, he should be careful of the Judases and Brutuses,” he wrote, highlighting the need to balance inclusivity with caution.
Dr. Bawumia secured the NPP flagbearer position in the party’s presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, winning 110,643 votes, or 56.48 per cent of the total valid ballots.
His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, polled 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong followed with 36,303 votes (18.53 per cent).
The results also saw Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong finishing fourth and fifth with 1,999 votes (1.02 per cent) and 402 votes (0.21 per cent), respectively, cementing Dr. Bawumia’s mandate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
