Fidelity Bank Ghana has donated GH¢50,000 to the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to support the construction of a new press centre for journalists in the region.
The contribution underscores the bank’s commitment to strengthening media development and supporting institutions that promote professional journalism.
Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Ghana, Julian Opuni, said the donation followed a formal request from the Association and aligns with the bank’s broader corporate responsibility to support the media.
“We received a request from the GJA, and as part of our pledge to support, we are donating GH¢50,000 towards the press centre project,” he announced at a one-day financial sector training programme for journalists in Kumasi organised by Fidelity Bank.
According to him, the bank recognises the vital role journalists play in national development and values their continued partnership, not only in the Ashanti Region but across the country.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Kofi Adu Domfeh, expressed appreciation for the timely financial support and also commended the immediate past executives of the Association for initiating the appeal for funds.
He explained that although the Association previously lost land earmarked for the project, intervention by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has resulted in the allocation of a new site to facilitate the construction.
“We lost the land some time ago, but fortunately, through the intervention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, we have been granted a new facility,” noted Mr. Domfeh. “As new executives, we have been thinking through how to finance this project, and this gesture by Fidelity Bank has come at an opportune time.”
He assured that the funds would be used judiciously and pledged that the bank’s contribution would be permanently recognised when the press centre is completed.
“Fidelity have set the pace for this project; we truly appreciate this gesture, and we promise that the donation will be put to good use. Fidelity Bank’s name will be written in gold at the press centre,” he added.
The proposed press centre is expected to provide a dedicated and professional workspace for journalists in the Ashanti Region, serving as a hub for media engagements, training programmes, and collaborative activities aimed at strengthening the practice of journalism.
About the Training Workshop
The presentation of the donation formed part of a one-day financial literacy training programme organised by Fidelity Bank for journalists in the region.
Facilitated by the Chartered Institute of Banking, Ghana, the workshop sought to enhance journalists’ understanding of the banking and financial sector, while building capacity for accurate and responsible financial reporting.
Participants received training on banking policies, regulatory frameworks, and practical approaches to interpreting financial statements to improve the quality of financial journalism.
