Former Black Star midfielder Rahim Ayew denies that Ghanaian players with unsuccessful careers abroad do not make returns to the domestic scene for money.
Ayew, 26, does not have a club presently, following his refusal to extend his stay with Kotoko after his initial one-year deal on his return from Belgium expired.
He flirted with Hearts of Oak before ending up with Kotoko.
“When we come back a lot of people think we are old and that we have nothing to offer but only coming for the money,” he said exclusively in an interview with Joy Sports.
Ayew had terminated his contract with SK Lierse, then opted to come back home to put himself on the shop window again.
“We make a lot of sacrifices to play here," he insists, claiming an unattractive offer from Kotoko is the reason he did not renew the deal.
“I am not sure Olympics can pay the real salary for Godwin Attram. If we wanted to take the real salaries on our return, no club can pay us.”
Earlier this week, GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi had hailed other returnees such as Richard Kingson, Godwin Attram and Fatau Dauda for the decision to re-launch their careers at home, calling it "a welcome development".
