Zinedine Zidane claims he would take the job of Real Madrid coach should Carlo Ancelotti vacate the role this summer.
Ancelotti’s future at the club has been questioned in recent weeks following some disappointing performances since the turn of the year, while the Real Madrid Castilla coach has added more fuel to the rumours by insisting he could be the man to step into the Italian’s shoes should he depart the Santiago Bernabeu.
“If the role of coach at Real Madrid was offered to me I would certainly agree to it,” Zidane told Canal Plus.
“However, there is a coach there right now who is doing a very good job. I am part of the club’s structure and still learning.
“Am I ready for the job? You are never ready, but even if you’re not you still have to say yes. When I was a player I didn’t build my career over two years because things happen gradually. It’s the same in coaching.
“I’ve learned a lot from Carlo Ancelotti and he knows how highly I regard him. He’s the perfect coach for Real Madrid, despite what people are saying.”
Zidane was assistant to Ancelotti when the team won last season’s Champions League and was also part of Jose Mourinho’s set-up during his time at the club.
“What I learned from Mourinho is that he never gives up. It’s surprising the way in which he handles things but he’s right because he’s harsh but fair. He does everything for his players.
“With Carlo it’s different. He’s cool with the players and shows more patience. But he also knows that at times you need to be strict,” added the Frenchman.
