The District Chief Executive for Yendi, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani, has reiterated the call on the government to upgrade the district into a municipality to enhance economic and social development.
He said the district has a population of about 1.5 million and a total landmark of about 5,380 square kilometres that needed to be upgraded for effective administration to facilitate development.
Alhaji Tijani told the GNA in Yendi on Wednesday that due to the size of the district it was difficult to monitor it in terms of governance.
"There are other five sub-districts within it," he said.
He said the district had all that it takes to be upgraded and mentioned a divisional police station, modern communication facilities, a post office, a modern market and improved road network.
Alhaji Tijani said with the numerous development infrastructures in place, Yendi deserved to be upgraded into a municipality.
