The Assembly Member for the Akoon Electoral Area in the Wassa West District, Mr Edward Larbi, has presented ¢15.5 million to some victims of a fire outbreak at Akoon in the Western region.
The churches in the community contributed ¢7.9 million of the amount, the District Assembly gave ¢5 million while people in the area provided the remaining ¢2.7 million.
The churches included the Methodist, Anglican and the Pentecost and Christ Apostolic, the Living Word Ministry, Christ Within and the Action Churches.
Making the presentation to Mr Joseph Quarshie, Landlord on behalf of the victims who were his tenants, the Assembly Member appealed to the people to handle candles during electricity power outages with care or alternatively use lanterns and torch lights, to avoid fire outbreaks.
Mr Larbi expressed his sympathy to the victims and advised them to work hard to recover their losses.
He praised the donors especially the churches and individuals for going to the aid of the less fortunate members of the community.
Mr Quarshie thanked them for their gesture.
A fire outbreak on 28th January 2007 burnt down an eight-bedroom house at Akoon in which a four-year-old boy was killed and property worth over ¢100 million destroyed.
