Three suspected robbers, including a female, have been arrested in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.
The three allegedly engaged in night robbery operations in the metropolis, using an Opel Astra Caravan taxi cab.
The suspects, Cleventus aka Kwame Amo, 22, a native of Nandom in the Upper West Region, Collins Otchere, 36 and Akua Amponsah, 19, a resident of Kwahu Atisie in the Eastern region, were rounded up at a mechanic’s shop on Thursday.
The three, arrested by a team of the Striking Force Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Kumasi upon a tip-off, were placed in police custody, while further investigations continued to facilitate their prosecution in a court of law.
The Daily Guide newspaper stated that DSP Prince Gabriel Waabo, Commander of the Unit, said the police pursued the suspects when they had information that the three were allegedly using the taxi cab for night robbery operations.
He said with this information, the police trailed the suspects to a mechanic’s shop on the Barekese Road, where Cleventus and his accomplices had sent the Opel Astra taxi cab with registration number GW 4781U for servicing.
Checks on the taxi cab, which had the chassis number, W0L000515N2683848, with no address, showed it had been repainted, with a different insurance label embossed on it, obviously to outwit the security agencies.
According to DSP Waabo, the suspects had told the police during interrogation that the car belonged to one Dennis Adjei.
However, investigations had revealed that it belonged to one W.B. Adams, resident in Accra.
The commander said the suspects would be arraigned if investigations suggested they should be so treated.
He appealed to members of the public with information about ownership of the taxi cab, as well as those who had been robbed by the three suspects to contact the police.
