The Director of Hydro Engineering, Mr Kirk-Koffi has said he does not anticipate a more stringent load shedding program even though the Akosombo dam is operating at the minimum level.
The water level of the Akosombo Dam on Tuesday is 236.55ft. Only two out of the six turbines of the dam are running to prevent the dam from total collapse.
There have been speculations that the ongoing load shedding would be reviewed to a twenty-four hour blackout every two days due to the worsening low level of the water.
Currently consumers experience blackouts 12 hours every other day.
Speaking to Joy News, Ing. Kirk-Koffi said the daily drop of the water level in the dam is normal.
“We are expecting the rains very soon. I don’t foresee that because they are bringing in some additional generation of about 40 Megawatts in Tema to increase it. So as we get this additional generation and as we also get improvement of supply from Cote d’Ivoire it would positively influence how we are cutting back power supply to our customers,” he stated.
It is expected that 106 Megawatts of power will be brought on stream at the end of this month while a plant being constructed by the VRA is expected to be ready in August.
