Five people died on the spot and two others later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi when a KIA tipper truck veered off the road and went into a ditch on the Tanodumase-Gyereso road near Bibiani on Wednesday.
The deceased mostly traders, were identified as Kofi Aboagye, the driver, Kwadwo Dagarti, Edward Teye, Kwaku Kusasi, Theophilus Mensah, an eight-year-old boy, Yaw Boateng and one Joe.
Twenty-seven others who received serious injuries are on admission at KATH and Bibiani Government Hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Arlorday, Nyinahin District Police Commander said the tipper truck was loaded with passengers from Tanodumase to Gyereso on a market day.
He said while descending a hill, the driver lost control and hit a tree killing the seven and injuring the rest.
The corpses have been deposited at Bibiani hospital and KATH for autopsy, while the police continued with investigations into the accident.
