The Member of Parliament for Bimbila constituency, Domnic Nitiwul, says by his book, the director of communications for the NPP presidential candidate in 2008 elections, Dr Arthur Kennedy has done more harm than good to the New Patriotic Party.
He said the book would serve a more useful purpose for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) than those for whom it was written.
Since its publication, the book “Chasing the Elephant into the Bush: the Politics of Complacency” has generated mixed reactions.
It gives an intimate account of how the NPP prosecuted its campaign for the 2008 general elections and offers suggestions on what the party needs to do for future elections.
While members of the ruling party have received the book with much praise as a good expose on Ghanaian politics, most in the NPP have condemned it, viewing it as a betrayal by one of their own.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Wednesday, Mr Nitiwul acknowledged the fact that Dr Arthur Kennedy’s book would be good for the body politics of Ghana as a democratic nation.
He said it would benefit the NPP in the long term.
However, he was quick to add that in the short term that the party intends to recapture power, the book would not help the party in its cause because the party’s opponents are already using its revealing contents for propaganda purposes.
Mr Nitiwul noted that Arthur K’s aim for writing the book, which was to draw his people’s (the NPP) attention to some vital issues that led to their defeat during the 2008 general elections, could not be achieved due to the wrong channel he chose.
