Voting at the National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party currently underway at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi is expected to drag late into the night.
The novelty one-day conference under the theme, "Reflect, Rebuild and Recapture" has run very peacefully so far, against the backdrop of pre-conference tension. The two persons around whom the tension has built, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, both of who are seeking to lead the party as presidential candiates, sat together and chatted heartily at the VIP section of the stadium where the event was held.
Party officials had planned to start the conference at about 7am to consummate the process in good time, however, the late arrival of some of the delegates got the conference to a late start at 11am, pushing all other activities behind schedule.
Okaikoi South MP, Nana Akomea told Joy FM’s Evans Mensah he was expecting voting to close at about 9pm at worst.
Almost 4,500 delegates, NPP parliamentarians and a few other party officers are at the polls to elect national officers to lead Ghana’s largest opposition party for the next four years.
Eight executive positions are available for the elections; National Chairman, Vice-Chairperson (4 positions), General Secretary, National Organiser, Women's Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Treasurer and the Nasara Club.
Below is a list of the candidates under the respective positions. In the case of the Vice-Chairman slot where four candidates are to be elected, each delegate is expected to vote for three candidates.
Myjoyonline.com is on standby to update patrons with results as soon as counting is over.
