The newly elected National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Moctar Musa Bamba has hinted that he will set up a youth group to be called the Bamba Boys to counter the Azoka Boys of the ruling National Democratic Congress based in Tamale.
The Azoka Boys is known to serve the interest of the NDC and it has also been accused of being behind intimidation of the NPP especially during elections.
According to Alhaji Bamba, the Bamba Boys will be tasked with the cardinal responsibility of serving the interest of the NPP at all times especially when it comes to elections.
Speaking to Citi News Monday, Alhaji Bamba said the Bamba Boys will match the Azoka Boys boot-for-boot, “If the Azoka Boys in Tamale who are being transported or transferred to bye-election areas or areas of elections to intimidate and terrorise people are not stopped...in this democratic nation where no one is above the law, where the rule of law is everywhere...at Akwatia and Chereponi you saw them doing it. If they are not stopped, then Alhaji Bamba will not stop...The Bamba Boys will also come out to defend the NPP.”
He added that the Bamba Boys will not allow the interest of the NPP to be toyed with by any person or group of persons.
“There should be free-fair grounds so that we should all go about our duties without fear. When there is any bye-election or an election, let’s go without any beating or intimidation but so far as they come to intimidate and beat us, we will not sit down once again for them to repeat what they’ve been doing,” said.
“When we were in power we didn’t do that to them so we didn’t expect them to do that to us. If the Azoka Boys beat up our people, we will defend ourselves.”
“I have been to Chereponi and Akwatia and I have seen what the Azoka Boys were doing. They were intimidating and terrorising people that is why people didn’t come out to vote...If they are going to use that in 2012, then we should forget about the elections,” Alhaji Bamba added.
