A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on the party's newly-elected national officers to urgently put in place plans to organize a national delegates congress to elect a flag bearer for the party.
Ayisi Boateng is proposing that the party to organize the congress in August this year to allow them adequate time to plan and execute the party’s campaign for the 2012 general elections.
Over the weekend, the NPP organised its national delegates conference to choose national officers for the next four years.
After almost five hours of voting, the over-4000 delegates entrusted the destiny of the party into the hands of Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and his team.
The party is now set for a national delegates congress to elect a flag bearer for the 2012 presidential elections.
Though the party has yet to decide on a date, information picked up by Luv News indicates that it will be held in December this year.
Mr. Ayisi Boateng however believes the new executives should open nominations for the presidential race soon.
He says the early election of a flag bearer will enable the party enough time to sell it message to Ghanaians.
He has also expressed his disagreement with pollster and Editor of the Dispatch newspaper Ben Epson, who believes the positive outcome of the NPP delegates conference does not necessarily symbolise party unity.
He however tells Luv News the party has to work toward removing mistrust and suspicion to champion a united front.
