Police in Jirapa District in the Upper West Region have arrested three leaders of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly inciting the public against the District Chief Executive.The three, according to the District Police Commander, ASP Harrison Kpaso, went round Wednesday evening on motorbikes and with public address systems making announcements about an intended demonstration and in the process, “incited the public.”The leaders had early on organised a demonstration against the DCE and sent a petition to the President to among other things dismiss the DCE.They were again preparing for yet another demonstration, mobilizing the youth in the area via the address system when the police arrested them.“I had information that a group of boys in town [were] moving with public address system calling the youth for a meeting this morning. So we caused their arrest," ASP Kpaso told Joy News’ Sammy Darko.“They had been inciting the public so we arrested them,” he emphasized.He did not understand why the NDC leadership will at that “odd hour” call on the youth for a meeting.He said the three arrested were in police custody pending further investigations.The arrests could largely be attributed to a directive by the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawia Quaye to police personnel to arrest foot soldiers of NDC who foment trouble.A member of the youth, Mohammed Fataw, is accusing the DCE of using the police to intimidate them.He dismissed police assertions that they insulted the DCE and incited the public against, adding they had only sent harmless information about a meeting the following morning.“That is a blatant lie.
