Deputy Eastern Regional Minister has rubbished calls by the Regional Chairmen of the NDC for a public forum to scrutinize activities of the Judiciary.
Baba Jamal contends the President John Mills has attested to the independence of the Judiciary and that must bring an end to the needless controversy over the perceived bias of the judiciary.
The Judiciary has come under a barrage of criticisms from leading members of the governing National Democratic Congress, some of whom have accused the judiciary of bias.
The NDC chair Dr. Kwabena Adjei asked the Chief Justice Georgina Wood to purge the Judiciary of corruption or the NDC shall take steps to purge it for her.
His comments coupled with the drinking-bar-prejudicial-allegations made against Justice Anthony Oppong on the ongoing Ya-Na trial has sparked 'media war' between the AG’s office and the some members of the Bench.
On his arrival from US after his short leave, the president told news men he has confidence in the independence of the Judiciary.
But Regional Chairmen of the NDC appear to have a contrary view of the Judiciary and have called for a nationwide public forum for the activities of the Judiciary to be scrutinized and a resolution made.
Speaking on Peace FM on Wednesday, Baba Jamal said the president is the ultimate arbiter in the matter and his view must hold sway.
Touting the law credentials of the president, Baba Jamal intimated that Prof Mills is well enlightened on issues of law and urged members of the party to heed the call by the president and act accordingly.
Kweku Baako another panelist on the show said the call by the ten regional chairman only smacks of “populism that has no root in modern governance.”
He advised the NDC leaders to “look within” rather than bastardize the judiciary for the strings of losses the Attorney-General has suffered at the courts.
He said some of the demands made by the NDC chair and repeated by the ten regional chairmen are “legally illiterate.”
