The Inspector General of the Police (IGP) John Kudalor has said the police administration will start assigning personal security details to Flagbearers and their running mates from July 1, 2016.
The issue of security for presidential candidates has heightened after three South Africans security experts were arrested for training some of NPP bodyguards.
The trainees, according to the NPP, were supposed to provide security to the party's flagbearer and other key members of the party before and during the November polls.
Director of Police Public Affairs, Supt. Cephas Authur, told Joy News that the Police have been trained and oriented to undertake the task.
According to him, six policemen will be assigned to each political party; four men for each Flag bearer and two to every running mate.
According to Cephas Authur ,most of the political parties have agreed to this schedule.
He said one of the parties has asked for more men in addition to the six to be assigned to some dignitaries in the party.
He said, for now the four-two permutation is enough and that "it would do the trick" for the security of the flagbearers and their running mate.
He added that the Police administration is ready and would make amends where necessary.
He further said that if the NDC Flag bearer, President Mahama, demands less or more Policemen, amends would be made immediately.
