The major consensus among Ghanaians has been that we should not participate in this year Rio Olympic Games with many of the view that considering Ghana's poor record of winning medals at the last two editions of the multisport event, it will be proper not to waste the tax payer's money on just the 16 athletes qualified athletes for this year's games.
But National Sports Authority boss Joe Kpenge in an exclusive chat with Joy Sports has stated that although he would have wished Ghana qualify more athletes, we should back those that are going to represent the country
“If we want to send athletes there, we want to send the best, if 15 or 20 are the best, who are medal hopefuls, then that is okay that we don’t send a large contingent there,” he said.
“So if these can guarantee us some medals, some honor, so we should appreciate that.”
Kpenge wishes Ghana was sending more athletes to the games, we should still support the few athletes that are going. The Olympics being the powerhouse of all sporting events, it would be a shame to not have Ghana represented.
