Mr. Jabari Akil, a parent trainer and counselor, says technology should not be wholly blamed for the sex scandal in basic schools. Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Tuesday, on the recent sex escapade involving Junior High School children in Kumasi and Accra, Mr Akil said a concerted effort from the churches, mosques, civil organizations and the various homes is needed to tackle this challenge. He said it is unfortunate that this has come at a time when Ghana is prime to make a greater effort to teach and educate children about the uses of technology. Mr Jabari Akil blamed parents for becoming what he termed as “absentee parents” who most of the time leave their children on their own without the necessary counseling. He said the parents do shirk their responsibility and at times delegate their core duties of inculcating proper Ghanaian values into their children to technology, thus intensifying the problem. “Although you might have parents who control some internet sites [use by wards], but inculcating the proper Ghanaian values into the children is what is needed. Because certainly, pornography or other forms of inappropriate behaviours and videos have existed for a long time, not just in video content but in just behavior.” He advised that the system could be purged starting from the home and then spread to the society Story by Evelyn Avevor Afi/Myjoyonline.com
