The Italian President, His Excellency Giorgio Napolitano today inspected the Ohene Djan Sport Stadium in Accra to ascertain the progress of work.
The President, who is in the country on a three-day official visit inspected the facilities at the venue which is being renovated by Italian contractors, Micheletti and Co.
President Napolitano expressed satisfaction with the level of work and charged the contractors to endeavour to exceed expectations of the Ghanaian sporting public.
The contractors are expected to hand over the 40,000 capacity edifice to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) on October 31.
Jimmy Castanga, Technical Director of Micheletti and Co who conducted the President around, said his outfit was buoyed by the visit and expressed their commitment towards meeting the deadline.
The refurbishment has reached an advanced stage with the roofing as the only major work left.
Anti-vandal facilities, rest rooms for spectators and an ultra-modern scoreboard are among the several services the renovated stadium will enjoy.
The Ohene Djan stadium is one of the four venues for the 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations, Ghana 2008 scheduled for January.
The Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the tourney.
