The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Thursday morning undertook a decongestion exercise at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
The taskforce of about 50 men disrupted trading activities as they destroyed unauthorised structures at the interchange.
The area is over-run with table-top businesses and traders who display goods on pavements and walkways.
AMA PRO Numo Blafo said the move is the beginning of efforts to ensure that government's pledge to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa is realised.
The President told Ga chiefs, “the commitment we are making and which I want you all to make with me is that by the time we end our four-year term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa.”
