Former Black Starlets assistant coach, Isaac Boateng has paid glowing tributes to the current Black Starlets team currently participating in the African Cup of Nations.
Boateng, popularly known as Coach Opeele in footballing circles likened the play and output of the team to that of their predecessors in the early 90’s.
The team served Ghanaians with moments to savor in their breath taking victory over Cameroon in their Nations Cup opener.
Paa Kwasi Fabin’s outfit produced a masterclass in attacking which resulted in a 4-0 win. The result meant the team are a win short of reaching their minimum target of qualifying for the World Cup and Opeele is convinced the team has the potential to reach high heights.
”This is one of the best Starlets team assembled that can be likened to the Starlet squads we saw in 1991 through to 1997, so they have given us a memory of that squad.
This is a strong squad that plays so well with the passing, inter passing, the switch in play, the speed, the strength and the combination play and everything they have.
“You could also tell this is a team with hunger, so hungry for success and they replicated what Ghanaians call as “Agoro” by passing and controlling the ball.
And individually we saw Eric Ayiah also coming from deep position to score and we also saw Sulley scoring a brilliant goal so it is a good squad.”
Ghana play hosts Gabon in their second group game.
