Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Education Science and Sports on Monday commended the National female soccer team, the Black Queens, for beating their Nigerian counterparts last Sunday.
The Queens pushed a bitter pill down the throat of their sworn rivals, the Super Falcons of Nigeria with a lone goal victory when the two sides clashed in the Beijing 2008 Olympic qualifier at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.
A congratulatory statement signed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr Ato Essuman, said the Minister commended the Black Queens for their resolve, determination and steadfastness, aptly demonstrated in the encounter with the Falcons.
"Your lone goal victory over Nigeria this weekend has once and for all time dispelled the perception of a jinx and proved that no barrier or obstacle is impossible for you to overcome.
"Your success, no doubt, has demonstrated that you, our Queens, are prepared technically, professionally and psychologically and are capable of overcoming any of your opponents until you are ushered into the finals of this Olympic qualifier," the statement stated.
The statement noted that the success was the result of the persistent hard work, discipline, good team spirit, and the careful preparation put in by the team's handlers.
By the victory, Ghana has jumped to the top of the four-team table with six points, three points ahead of the Falcons who are now at the second spot.
The Queens will next play the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in Pretoria later in the month.
