The Black Starlets of Ghana today made it to the round of 16 in the World Under-17 Championship currently underway in Korea after beating Colombia 2:1 in the final group game.
The Starlets finished second in Group F and will on Wednesday meet tough customers, Brazil who qualified from Group B.
The Starlets left qualification late into the second half after watching their 32nd minute lead by top marksman Ransford Osei cancelled in the 60th minute.
As usual, the Starlets seemed capable of burying their opponents under an avalanche of goals after creating several opportunities and blowing them with equal speed as they had come.
However as the game wore on and the clock ticked away, the objective became a difficult assignment as the South Americans themselves seemed to have found their rythm and looked the more dangerous.
But the tireless Ishmael Yartey fetched the most wanted goal for his side with just about five minutes to end proceedings.
The Starlets had on Saturday thronged the Ulsan
Sports Complex, venue of the game to offer prayers asking for God's intervention in the crucial encounter.
Coach Sellas Tetteh led the players to the stadium
and they stood round the centre circle and held each
others' hands and sang praises to God to help them
record a win on Sunday.
Their visit to the stadium was to enable the
players to get a feeling of the environment and also
to give them the confidence to win over their
opponents.
