A former Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior during the Kufuor administration, Nana Obiri Boahen has described the hullaballoo over the Woyome judgement debt saga as a sign that the Mills administration is on its way out of office.Nana Obiri Boahen explained that every aspect of the ‘Woyomegate’ scandal attests to the fact that the centre can no longer hold in the current administration and embezzlement of state funds has become the order of the day in the NDC government.He cited five pro-government newspapers which chose one headline on a particular day demanding the dismissal of the Attorney General, as an example of problems bedeviling the Mills administration.The A-G had earlier filed a suit at the courts against the payment of debt to NDC financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, but some people within the Mills administration appear not to be in favour of the action of the A-G, and have called for his dismissal because his stance appeared contrary to that of the president.The former Interior Minister said this in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday.The controversy surrounding the payment of judgement debt to Mr Alfred Woyome has taken centre stage in Ghanaian politics, with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing the ruling government of corruption.Nana Obiri Boahen, who is a legal practitioner, accused the Mills government of destroying everything the Kufuor administration built and this, he claimed, had brought untold hardship on Ghanaians.He asserted that recent happenings in the government would have been a recipe for coup d’etat if this had been in the 1970s or early 1980s.Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secertary for the NDC, Kofi Adams is worried about the way the ‘Woyomegate’ saga is being handled by the government communication team.Kofi Adams called for urgent redress of the issue because according to him, the more it delayed, the more embellishments are added to the story, putting the party and government under unnecessary pressure.The Deputy General Secertary said it was important the country took a fresh look at the issue of judgement debts, arguing that such huge sums of money could have been spent on national development projects.Kofi Adams said the Woyome saga is a test case for the NDC government to prove that the party upholds the principles of probity, transparency and accountability.Mr Adams called on the Mills administration to live up to the task of making Ghana a better place to live.
