Joy Sports’ Benedict Owusu has for the third time in his illustrious career been adjudged best Sports Journalist of the year, broadcast category.
Benedict claimed the individual accolade at the 2017 Ghana Journalists Association awards for his piece on how women’s football titled SKIRTS ON THE PITCH.
His love and desire to probe for human-centred stories and as well many backstories aside, what is seen on the pitch has made him a unique face in sports journalism in this country.

The modern global game of football was first codified in 1863 in London. At the time it was only men who played football but the game has for some decades now evolved with women also taking part at the highest level in countries including Ghana.
His piece focused on how women’s football started in Ghana and the struggle and frustration girls go through playing football in this country.
Many revelations and mind-boggling conclusions were derived from his piece and we look forward to more compelling stories from the reigning sports journalist of the year.
Benedict has now won the award three times in a row after collecting the top gong in 2014 and 2015.
