The Black Queens of Ghana suffered a 4:1 defeat at the hands of their Australian counterparts in their Women's World Cup first Group C game in China.
The Queens, uncharacteristically slow and lacking much cordination, went down 2:0 before the break, and resumed the second half on the same slow note, conceding a third goal before Anita Amankwa pulled one back.
However the more aggressive Australians restored their margin, and indeed could have made it at least six, except some moments of spectacular saves by Memunatu Sulemana in post for the Queens, ensured that the scoreline got no worse.
The Queens next play Canada on Saturday and then Norway next Wednesday.
