Stakeholders, organizations and churches have been urged to find innovative ways of assisting the poor in the society.

This will go a long way to ensuring that the Millennium Development Goals [MDG] are met, CEO of Volunteer for International Medical Aid (VIMA) Francis Agbemafle, has said.

The head of the California based international NGO said this during a visit to Dzogbefeme in Avatime and some other communities in the Volta region to support the needy and orphans there

The group made several donations to the people within the various communities they visited.

According to Mr Agbemafle, most families especially in the deprived communities cannot afford three square meals and can’t even provide for the needs of their children due to the high-level of poverty in those areas.

He has described the situation as worrying and needs collaborative efforts from all to solve it.

Touching on childbirth, he said it was unacceptable the circumstances under which some expectant mothers lost their lives in the course of delivery in those areas.

“We cannot continue losing our women through childbirth and our children through hunger and poverty without doing anything about it” he lamented.

He said stakeholders and all well-meaning Ghanaians must look beyond their immediate families and their inner circles alone and start thinking about how to extend help to others especially the needy in the society

He said it was the responsibility of every Ghanaian to ensure that maternal mortality was reduced and women and children are well taken care of by the society they live in.

He also urged churches to help their needy members so that they engage in income generating activities and live a dignified life.

He also admonished the people to take the education of the children very seriously no matter the circumstances they may find themselves in

Mr James Gleich, a member of the American delegation promised the people of the group’s commitment to improving the lives of ordinary people.

The Chief of Dzogbefeme ,Okusie Dzabraka  X was grateful to the delegation for their kind gesture and pleaded with other NGOs to emulate  VIMA in support the needy and less privileged in the society.

He also appealed for a large capacity water storage and boreholes to help the communities and also reduce the stress of going a far distance by women and children in search of potable water.
