Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea says the Volta Region, 'World Bank' of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) recorded low voter registration turn-out in the just ended biometric registration exercise.He claims that based on figures the NPP compiled from the Volta region; the current exercise recorded one hundred thousand (100,000) less than the figure in the same region in 2008.Nana Akomea was reacting to an accusation by the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to the effect that the NPP used bloated voters register in the Ashanti region for the 2008 general elections.General Mosquito as he is popularly called, said the NDC has been vindicated since its own draft register it compiled from the just ended biometric registration confirmed that the Ashanti region voter population for the 2008 elections was bloated.But in a rebuttal, Nana Akomea on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday challenged the NDC Scribe to come out with figures from the Volta region for an objective analysis of the situation.He called Asiedu Nketia's comments a show of double standards.Nana Akomea said the NDC Scribe should have compared figures from both the Ashanti and Volta regions; strongholds of the opposition and the ruling party before playing the blame game.He indicated that it will not be in any political party’s interest to blame another party of engaging in electoral malpractice in its stronghold as the country gears up for the December general elections.The NPP Communication Director observed that it will be prudent for all political parties to wait for the figures of the Electoral Commission (EC) which according to him, is the neutral arbiter to give a true representation of the situation in the Ashanti Region.Explaining the Ashanti region situation in the just ended biometric registration exercise, Nana Akomea said based on NPP’s compilation of the figures; voter registration turn-out was 2.7 million representing an increase of 20% compared to 18% in 2007. That, he said, was contrary to the ruling party’s claims.Nana Akomea insisted that the NDC owes Ghanaians an explanation about the decrease in the number of registered voters in the Volta region.
