Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Emmanuel Atta Ofori, has called on all citizens of Kwahu to embrace the habit of cleaning their environment.
He said being healthy is the greatest thing any individual or country will aspire to have and pleaded with all Ghanaians to see cleaning their environment as an obligation.
Speaking after heavy clean-up exercise in Mpreaso over the weekend, he said, "all citizens have a great role to play in ensuring environmental sanitation is a priority.”
Mr Atta Ofori urged participants in the exercise to “think of the environment in your respective communities and don't allow anyone to go about throwing empty sachets of “pure” water, bottles, sharp objects and refuse everywhere.
"We should not allow people to be urinating and defecating in the environment anyhow. As good citizen, be mindful of how you dispose of wastes and harmful things in your environment as they, in turn, translate into all kinds of diseases," he added.
The DCE assured the people that he would lead the agenda of maintaining the overall purpose of sanitation to provide a healthy living environment for everyone and protect natural resources from damage.
Some of the participants said they believe it is time the country stands up against people who maltreat the environment. They believe it is time attention is paid to water bodies and waste disposal.
Also, they pleaded that some authorities in charge of waste disposal come to pick gathered refuse on time so it does not scatter with some finding its way back to into cleaned gutter.
The cleanup exercise was a joint effort between the Assembly and Zoomlion.
