Builsa North legislator, James Agalga, has brushed aside suggestions that he could be intimidated in a possible role as Majority Leader.

He insisted that his years of parliamentary experience have adequately prepared him to lead the business of the House.

The MP said his experience as a Ranking Member, Committee Chairman and long-serving legislator has equipped him with the leadership skills required to serve as Majority Leader.

His remarks come in response to comments by former Defence Minister and Minority Leader Dominic Nitiwul, who questioned his leadership credentials.

Mr Nitiwul argued that although Mr Agalga is among the longest-serving Members of Parliament, he had not previously occupied one of the House's top leadership positions.

Responding to the criticism, Mr Agalga said he was confident his performance would ultimately determine how Ghanaians assess his leadership.

"I think that the end shall justify the means. Do I look like somebody who can be bullied?" he asked on Accra-based Citi FM on August 7.

"We leave the rest for the people to judge when we settle down to work."

He rejected claims that he lacks leadership experience in Parliament, pointing to the various positions he has held over the years.

"I want to assure you that I am not new to leadership in Parliament. I have been ranking member for eight solid years. I am currently the chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee. And so, to that extent, it cannot be said that I am new to leadership," he said.

Mr Agalga further argued that his long tenure in Parliament has earned him the respect of his colleagues, making suggestions that he could be bullied unfounded.

"I am a full-term Member of Parliament. And so, I do not think that any colleague of mine in the House can bully me," he said.

He maintained that the true measure of his leadership would only become evident when Parliament resumes sitting and his stewardship is put to the test.

"But like I said, the end shall justify the means," he added.
