The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has parried claims of double standards after it issued a statement demanding police protection for investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The same association had only weeks ago condemned investigative journalists especially Multimedia’s Manasseh Azure Awuni for investigating rich businessmen in Ghana.

The Association in a statement said the activities of the unnamed journalists could derail the efforts of Ghanaian businessmen.

Manasseh Azure had been investigating the Jospong Group of companies which has been embroiled in a number of corruption scandals.

However in the wake of the Anas investigation in which Ghana’s FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi is captured in an alleged act of fraud, the GJA has been vociferous in championing the interest and protection of the Tiger Eye PI head.

The action by the GJA has been deemed to be acts of double standards but the President of the Association Affail Monney has rubbished the claim.

He told Joy News’ Evans Mensah and Emefa Apawu on Newsnite, Monday the two scenarios are not the same.

“Spare us the agony of comparing the two scenarios,” he said when the question was put to him.

According to him, Manasseh has not complained of his life being in danger but Anas has, a reason why they called for police protection for the New Crusading Guide editor.

Affail Monney also criticized the Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyepong for his “chaotic style of accusation” against Anas.

While journalists are not above criticism, Monney said the criticism must not expose the journalist to harm.

“This is what we frown on,” he said, condemning Kennedy Agyepong for his recent outburst against Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
