An Accra High Court has handed the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo seven days to give former COCOBOD CEO, Dr. Stephen Opuni the documents she intends to use in prosecuting the case of causing financial loss to the state brought against him.

Businessman Seidu Agongo is also to receive same as well as that against his company Agricult Ghana Limited. 

The two individuals and the entity have been standing trial over fertilizer contracts the state believes were entered into mischievously.

For more than a month the court ceased hearing the matter following an application made by Lawyers for Dr. Opuni demanding access to all documents in the possession of the state prosecutors including those that may not be tendered in as evidence.

Opposition from the AG forced the court to put the trial on hold as it awaited judgment from the Supreme Court on the same matter that had been referred to it by an Accra High court hearing the case of former NCA top officials.

The Supreme Court on June 7 ruled that accused persons are entitled to have access to all documents.

Trial Judge Justice Clemence Honyenuga today gave life to that ruling as he said the AG must file all the documents within 7 days. 

Justice Honyenuga sounded a note of caution to lawyers in the case as he stated that he would not countenance any needless delays.

The judge fixed July 4 as the date for the trial to commence.
