The new Ashanti Regional Police Commander is promising intensified and increased police presence in an effort to clamp down on criminals.

DCOP Kwasi Mensa Duku says his administration will ruthlessly deal with land guards and rival terror gangs in the region.

He addressed his maiden press conference on Wednesday to spell out his vision and plans after taking over from DCOP Ken Yeboah following a recent re-shuffle.

DCOP Duku warns rioters who attack police stations would also be dealt with in an effort to combat terror activities.

"The region as it is today is relatively peaceful and secure, conducive for socio-economic development without fear of crime and intimidation of any person. Languardism and rival gang attacks would be fought fiercely," he warned.

DCOP Duku called for public support by volunteering information to help police to maintain law and order.

"I would also appeal to the general public to give us credible and important information on criminals to enable the command act decisively to improve the relative peace being enjoyed."

DCOP Duku took over from COP Ken Yeboah who has been transferred to the police headquarters as Director of Technical Services.

Meanwhile, the command has arrested three persons suspected to be members of terror gangs at separate locations in the region.

Charles Mensah was arrested with an Italian-made pistol at Mayanka in Kumasi for alleged criminal activities around Ayeduase and other communities in the KNUST enclave. 

Three other members of the gang are being sought after by the police.

Karim Yahaya of Jamasi, together with two accomplices, Osmanu Mahamanu and Amadu Alhaji, both residents of Nkawkaw are said to have committed crimes at Agona.

DSP Juliana Obeng who speaks for the Ashanti Regional Police Command says the gang blocked the Juaben-Domakwaa with logs,  robbed motorists of an unspecified amount of money, mobile phones, among others.

They succeeded in ceasing two taxi cabs at gun point. 

But luck eluded them when police acting on a tip-off arrested Karim at Agona.

The first arrest later led to the arrest of the two suspects at Meduma near Kumasi in one of the stolen taxi cabs on June 13, 2018.
