Ashanti Region’s newly-formed Sports Committee says it will explore various sporting competitions to unearth and develop talents to enhance Ghana’s participation in international tournaments.
The seven-member committee, led by Samuel Ampadu Kyei, is tasked with the responsibility of promoting sports development by organizing sport festivals across the region.
The committee which will co-coordinate district level sporting activities held, its maiden meeting at the Baba Yara Stadium, on Wednesday.

Deputy Regional Minister, Madam Elizabeth Agyemang, who was in attendance charged members to discharge their duties with diligence, honesty and transparency.
Mr. Ampadu Kyei spelt out how the committee intends to execute its plans to achieve targets within a four-year mandate for which he called for stakeholder support.
“What we’ve done is that since it’s sports in general, we're going to tag every sports discipline to a committee, then we will make sure all the disciplines run tournaments concurrently in a year,” he said.
“By the end of our four-year mandate most of the sporting disciplines will naturally develop, then Ashanti Region will be well placed in its stead as the best in the country," Mr. Ampadu Kyei added.
Other members include Regional Sports Director, Edmund Appiah, Stephen Ofori and Joseph Acquah, representing Kumasi Metropolitan and Obuasi Municipal Assemblies, respectively.
The rest are Nana Yaw Wiredu for Asokwa Municipality as well as Kofi Agyei and Nana Ama Ampomah, both nominees of the Regional Minster.
