At least 14, 126 pupils drawn from 115 basic schools in Kwahu East have received free uniforms from Bryan Acheampong Foundation as part of the Bryan Acheampong School Project (BASP).

The items were donated during the Ghana Education Service (GES) ceremony dubbed,‘My first Day at School.’

The ceremony is organised at the beginning of a new academic year to orient pupils and teachers.

Mr Eric Nyarko, the Director for Development said the donation was to motivate the pupils to appreciate the importance of education, saying ‘education is one of the key pillars to transform a country’.

He said the Foundation is committed to supporting education in the district and beyond, adding that the donation would stimulate the pupils to learn hard and boost academic performance in the country.

“The Bryan Acheampong Foundation’s goal for Basic Education is to provide increased equitable access to quality, child-friendly universal basic education, by improving opportunities for all children in the first cycle of Education at the Kindergarten, primary and junior high school levels.

The Director indicated that the initiative is aimed to relieve the burden of parents in the provision of school going materials and encourage attendance in schools.

This will encourage school children to attend school frequently and reduce absenteeism amongst them. The Sponsorship program of supplying school uniforms will not only be beneficial to the school children but the community as the tailors and seamstresses that sewed the uniforms were within the district. This will, in turn, bring money into their hands and boost economic activities within the district” he said.

Under the BASP Initiative, the Foundation is renovating the Nkwatia SDA primary school, organising quiz competition and distributing teaching and learning materials as part of our goal of improving education in the district.

BAF has already supplied books to schools and established reading clubs to improve on the literacy level of pupils in the district. To this end, quiz and debate competition was organized for all schools within the district, with finals to be held next week in Abetifi.

Acting Education Program manager, Miss Elsie Odonkor, said education was a strong tool for preventing social vices and called on both pupils and parents to take good care of the uniforms given them.

“We hope that the provision of these uniforms will go a long way to help improve education within the district. It is our sincere desire that these uniforms will be well kept to serve its purpose,” she admonished.
