Police in the Ashanti region have arrested a 25-year-old man for his alleged impersonation and defrauding the public under the pretence of being an herbalist.
Emmanuel Boateng is reported to have impersonated a registered traditional herbalist, Bright Appiah, who is presently the Chief Executive of Nana Kofi Herbal located at Ntonsu in the Ashanti region.
He is said to have defrauded unsuspecting clients of various sums of money through his chicanery.
As part of his fraudulent scheme, Emmanuel manipulated videos shared on social media by replacing the original contact numbers of Mr. Appiah with his own numbers and misleading the public who sought herbal services.
Through an intelligence-led operation, he was apprehended at his hideout in Amangoase, a suburb of Nsuta.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the suspect has defrauded several individuals, both locally and internationally, including victims in Ghana, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
Investigations are still ongoing as the police urge the public to exercise caution when engaging with individuals online.
“Members of the public are advised to be vigilant and to verify all contact details before engaging in financial transactions. Suspicious activities should be reported to the nearest police station without delay,” the police statement read.
