The newly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, says she feels proud and fulfilled after being declared the winner in the parliamentary rerun held on Friday, July 11.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate secured a narrow victory over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie in what turned out to be a fiercely contested race.
Madam Aubynn polled 34,090 votes, edging out her closest contender, who garnered 33,881 votes.
Speaking to the media shortly after the Electoral Commission announced the official results, Madam Aubynn said her victory came as no surprise.
“A win was expected because we have worked so hard,” she stated confidently.
She stated that her team ran a grassroots-focused campaign, engaging with constituents and highlighting practical solutions to the problems facing the area.
Now that she has been elected, Ewurabena stated that her focus will shift to tackling the challenges that residents of Ablekuma North face daily.
“There are basic things that we are deprived of, so we will work at it and see how best we can improve the constituency,” she said.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Ablekuma North for turning out in their numbers to support her, as well as to the leadership of the NDC for backing her candidacy.
“I also want to thank the party leadership and my mother, Valarir Sawyerr, the regional executives, national executives, and everybody who supported me,” she said.
Describing her win as divinely ordained, she added, “A win is a win. What God wants is what He has done.”
The newly elected MP reaffirmed her commitment to serve her constituents diligently, noting that the outcome of the rerun reflects a strong desire for transformation.
“What the people of Ablekuma North wanted was change, and now that change has come, we will work with it,” she affirmed.
