Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has confirmed her participation in the 2026 Africa Energy Technology Conference (AETC), a major continental gathering on energy innovation scheduled for May 19-21, 2026, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
Her commitment was announced by the organisers in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, who say her involvement reflects the government’s continued push to strengthen Africa’s energy transition agenda.
According to the conference leadership, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will deliver a keynote address focused on how technology can expand sustainable energy access and drive industrial growth across the continent. She is also expected to engage policymakers, industry players, and international partners.
The announcement follows a courtesy call on the Vice President by the Founder and President of AETC, Ms. Emelia Akumah, and her team. During the meeting, they discussed energy access, innovation, and inclusive development, with particular emphasis on advancing opportunities for women and girls in the sector.
Organisers say Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s participation “underscores Ghana’s commitment to positioning itself as a central hub for energy technology dialogue on the continent.”
AETC is recognised as one of Africa’s premier platforms for accelerating the energy transition through investment, policy collaboration, and technology exchange. This year’s three-day event will bring together government delegations, private sector leaders, development partners, and innovators from across the energy value chain.
Day One features a high-level strategic framework session to be opened by President John Mahama, focusing on policy harmonisation, cross-border financing, and digital connectivity. The day will end with a gala dinner and trade awards night hosted by the Vice President
Day Two will emphasise trade and human capital development, with dedicated sessions on intra-African commerce and workforce mobility.
A special segment will highlight Women & Girls in Energy Innovation and Technology, showcasing projects led by female entrepreneurs.
Day Three will centre on implementation, technical dialogue, deal-making platforms, and a youth spotlight session aimed at nurturing the next generation of African energy leaders.
With registration currently open, organisers say AETC 2026 is poised to become “the most consequential energy technology gathering on the continent this year,” especially as Africa faces mounting pressure to deliver a sustainable and domestically driven energy future.
