Ghana's Horticulture Expo 2026 will begin on Thursday, September 3, 2026, bringing together farmers, exporters, processors, financial institutions, students, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to promote investment and growth in Ghana’s horticulture and non-traditional export sector.

The three-day event, which begins on September 3 and ends on Saturday, September 5, is being organised by the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) and will be held under the theme “From Soil to Sovereignty.”

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officially open the expo on Thursday, alongside ministers and other key stakeholders in the agriculture and export sectors.

The expo is designed to create a platform for businesses and producers to showcase their products, establish partnerships, access financial opportunities and learn about developments across the horticulture value chain.

Speaking on JoyFM Super Morning Show on Wednesday, September 2, Emmanuel Ansah-Amprofi, Head of Projects and Programmes at FAGE, said the organisation's objective is to help producers and exporters reach markets with products that meet international standards.

“FAGE is all about helping producers and exporters to reach the market with standard and world-class products and for us to become very competitive,” Mr Ansah-Amprofi said.

Expo goes beyond fruits and vegetables

Mr Ansah-Amprofi explained that the Ghana Horticulture Expo is not limited to fruits and vegetables but covers the wider non-traditional export sector.

“Everything non-traditional exports, that's what we do. And so the Expo actually brings together all these players,” he said.

The event is expected to bring together about 29 farmer and producer associations, as well as businesses involved in processing, value addition, packaging, certification, marketing and exports.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with producers and businesses, explore partnerships and learn about the requirements for developing products for both domestic and international markets.

The opening day on Thursday will feature the official ceremony, ministerial engagements, exhibitions and sector presentations.

A presentation on the tomato sector is also scheduled, followed by a panel discussion examining whether Ghana can build a more self-reliant economy through agriculture and related industries.

Friday will focus on finance and exporter financing, with Fidelity Bank playing a major role in the day's programme.

Discussions will address how businesses can scale, the opportunities available to exporters and the challenges entrepreneurs face in accessing finance.

The final day, Saturday, will be dedicated particularly to youth, women and students, with activities aimed at exposing them to opportunities within agriculture and encouraging greater participation in the sector.

Organisers say the expo will serve not only as a platform for exhibitions and discussions but also as a marketplace where members of the public can purchase products.

Mr Ansah-Amprofi encouraged the public to take advantage of the event to shop for locally produced food and other goods.

“This weekend, do all your food shopping at the Ghana Horticulture Expo,” he said.

Visitors will be able to purchase a wide range of products, including fresh fruits and vegetables, mangoes, pineapples, coconuts, mushrooms, nuts and processed agricultural products.

There will also be products from the cosmetics industry, including shea-based products and essential oils.

Handicrafts, paintings, drawings and carvings from different parts of Ghana will also be showcased and offered for sale.

A live catfish point and grill is also expected to form part of the attractions, while agricultural input suppliers will provide products and services for farmers and prospective agribusiness operators.

Companies including Agro-Monti and Interplast are among those expected to participate.

Call for more young people to enter agriculture

Mr Ansah-Amprofi also used the opportunity to encourage young people to consider agriculture as a serious business and investment opportunity rather than waiting until retirement to enter the sector.

He said opportunities exist across the entire value chain, from farming and processing to packaging, certification, marketing and exports.

He cited coconut production as an example of an agricultural activity that can provide long-term returns when farmers select appropriate varieties and manage their farms properly.

The expo will therefore provide opportunities for young people with business ideas to seek mentorship, funding and partnerships while learning directly from experienced players in the sector.

A major focus of the expo will be helping businesses understand what is required to compete in both local and international markets.

Participants will have access to discussions and information on packaging trends, certification, business registration and value addition.

Mr Ansah-Amprofi said the availability of mentors and experienced businesses is particularly important for young entrepreneurs who often struggle to find people capable of guiding them through the agricultural value chain.

The Ghana Horticulture Expo is being organised by the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters in partnership with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and Ghana Exim Bank, with support from Joy Business and Joy News.

Other partners include Fidelity Bank, Agro-Monti, Yodis, Golden Exotics and the Horticulture Business Platform, alongside several farmer and producer associations.
