The Wa West District Assembly has held its 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 3rd Session of the 5th Assembly, presenting a comprehensive account of development projects, revenue growth and security gains, while traditional authorities made urgent calls on the central government to address ministerial representation and cross-border connectivity.

Addressing the House, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West, Richard Wullo, disclosed that calm has returned to the district following recent security disturbances, supported by the deployment of targeted measures, including a new police checkpoint at Poyentanga to combat armed robbery along the corridor.

The DCE outlined major infrastructure projects across key sectors, including the completion of six-unit classroom blocks at Meteu and Bankpama, health facilities at Gombile and Doduoma, the drilling of several community boreholes, and the ongoing construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market at Poyentanga.

“Education remains our greatest tool for breaking the cycle of poverty in Wa West,” Richard Wullo stated.

He added that the Assembly had mobilised GH₵177,304.96 in Internally Generated Funds (IGF) by July, achieving 65.67% of its annual target of GH₵270,000, while receiving more than GH₵10.9 million from the District Assemblies Common Fund across three quarters.

The meeting also drew high-level advocacy from traditional leaders.

The Dorimon Naa, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama to restore cabinet-level representation to the Upper West Region following recent ministerial changes.

“The only Cabinet Minister we had in the Upper West Region was removed. We are appealing directly to the President: either restore him or give the region another cabinet appointment, and consider our Member of Parliament, Peter Lanchene Toobu, for government appointments,” the Dorimon Naa urged.

The Dorimon Naa also called on the governments of Ghana and Burkina Faso to construct an international bridge across the Black Volta at Jambusu.

He noted that the project would reduce travel time between Wa and Gaoua from more than six hours to about 90 minutes, while boosting trade, security and cultural cohesion between the two countries.

Presiding Member for the Wa West District Assembly, Dassah Y. Ephriam, commended the Assembly's management for refurbishing the Assembly Hall and urged members to actively deliberate on policies that directly benefit the local population.

Assembly members, including the Assembly Member for Gurungu, Manan Zumuroh Beyuo, and the Assembly Member for Guo and Chairman of the Works Sub-Committee, Adams Osman, praised the DCE for his prudent use of resources in renovating the Assembly Hall and advancing stalled infrastructure projects across the district.
