Akosua Manu, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan in the 2024 elections, has penned a heartfelt message to her fellow party member, Akua Afriyie, in the wake of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.
Akua Afriyie is the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the area, where the outcome of the parliamentary primaries remains contested due to irregularities.
In a post shared on social media, Akosua Manu acknowledged the emotional toll of the decision on Akua Afriyie, whose hard-fought campaign and initial victory have been placed in limbo.
“I know the battles you have fought and the work you have done to get this far,” she wrote.
“To work so hard and attain the goal but have victory snatched from your hands… that is the hand we are dealt.”
Despite the setback, Akosua encouraged Akua to find strength in the journey, describing her as a symbol of perseverance.
“Yet, you do not fight a lost battle because everything you have done makes you a champion to look up to,” she said. “Someday, others will fly because you walked. You chose to work for your people and that will always be remembered.”
Akosua Manu’s message has since drawn admiration from party faithful and sympathisers alike, with many praising the show of solidarity among NPP women leaders.
As the rerun approaches, Akua Afriyie remains a prominent figure in the constituency, buoyed by the unwavering support of colleagues like Akosua, who concluded her tribute with: “Those you have inspired will always stand and rise with you.”
