A touching scene unfolded at a polling centre in the Ablekuma North Constituency when an elderly male delegate was assisted to vote without stepping out of the taxi that brought him to the venue.
The aged man, who walks with the support of a stick, found it difficult to move into the voting area. After assessing the situation, Accra-based TV3 reported that polling officials brought the ballot paper to him in the vehicle to ensure he was not denied his right to vote.
Observers at the centre said the arrangement was made to protect the delegate’s safety while allowing him to participate fully in the exercise.
Meanwhile, an 87-year-old woman also demonstrated remarkable commitment by turning up at a voting centre in the Northern Region to cast her ballot.
She arrived as a pillion rider on a motorcycle and, despite her age, insisted on taking part in the process, drawing admiration from party officials and fellow delegates at the venue.
