Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for urgent action over the violent incidents that marred the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run, warning that failure to act could threaten the integrity and safety of future elections.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, 24 July, the Assin South MP said the violence set a dangerous precedent and must not be tolerated in Ghana’s democratic process.
“Ablekuma North election violence needs to be addressed seriously to avoid bloodshed in future elections. Democracy cannot be reduced to government-sponsored violence,” he wrote.
He also accused operatives linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind the disturbances and expressed concern over the lack of arrests.
“NDC thugs complicit are still walking free. Arrest all now and prosecute them before Akwatia by-election,” he added.

His comments follow widespread public outrage after violent scenes disrupted the 11 July re-run in Ablekuma North. Two individuals have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all perpetrators will be held accountable.
