The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on the government to reinstate more than 1,000 workers who were dismissed following a review by the NDC government into recruitments undertaken by the erstwhile NPP administration after the December 7, 2024, elections.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, Mr Afenyo-Markin urged the authorities to prioritise fairness over partisan considerations, stressing that “there is no NPP Ghana or NDC Ghana” when it comes to protecting workers’ livelihoods.

"I call on the government to reinstate those Ghanaian youth who were dismissed as a result of the direction of the government to state agencies."

"Mr Speaker, those Ghanaians have families and have their aspirations; they should not suffer just because there was a change of government. Mr Speaker, it has been over a year, and the government must reinstate them to go back to work," he added.

He argued that the dismissals have caused undue hardship for the affected persons and appealed for a review of the decisions to restore their employment.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says the government is willing to review cases of public-sector workers who may have been unfairly dismissed.

According to him, individuals whose appointments were made before the December 7 elections but who have not received communication from their respective institutions should formally bring their cases to the government’s attention for review.

“Let me also indicate that if there is anybody like that who suffered unfairly and who believes that their appointment predated December 7 and has not heard from the institutions, they can bring it to the attention of government and we will look at it,” he said.
