The Old Students Association of Abuakwa State College on Wednesday launched the 1995 and 2000 year groups under the theme: “Promoting Fraternal Relationship for Development”.
The ceremony, which formed part of the silver jubilee and the decade celebration of the 1985 and 2000 year groups, was to formally induct the year group executives and officially launch the year groups.
Mr Oscar Ayesu Appiah, acting Public Relations Officer of the 2000 year group, told the GNA in an interview that the celebration was meant to bring all old students to together to raise funds for the construction of the School’s Assembly Hall.
He said since its inception in 1936 the school had no assembly hall which created a lot of inconvenience and pressure on the Dinning Hall and stressed the need to improve upon the current situation.
Mr Ayesu Appiah said it was important, as old students of the school, to contribute their quota to help improve conditions in the school, adding that this would help ease the pressure on government.
He said coming together would also create a platform for members to discuss issues affecting the progress of the school and also assist one another in various ways.
Mr Ayesu Appiah said the groups had introduced an electronic fundraising system with the MTN money transfer where all old students and other corporate bodies could donate towards the project.
He called on old students in Ghana and in the Diaspora to contact the leaders of the various year groups for more information on arrangements for the celebration.
A speech and prize giving day, career and motivational conference, homecoming, dinner dance and fund raising ceremonies would be organised as part of the celebration.
