The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ade Coker, has blamed the recent misunderstanding between some appointees of the government and NDC foot soldiers on the lack of communication. Although he condemned some of the actions of the foot soldiers, he said if the government appointees had made a conscious effort to constantly interact with the party supporters, such a situation would have been saved. Mr Coker said this in an interview with the Daily Graphic after a recent meeting of the Regional Chairmen of the party to find solutions to some issues cropping up within the party. According to him, if the government appointees had taken the trouble to meet constantly with the party supporters and Ghanaians in general to explain the government's achievements, programmes, policies and challenges, the people would have understood the situation. With such interactions, he said, the people would appreciate what the government was doing to address the many problems it encountered when it took over from the NPP administration. Mr Coker mentioned the constant reduction in inflationary rates, resulting in the decrease in interest rates which would allow businesses to borrow at lower rates to expand. He said government appointees must also bear in mind that it was the same foot soldiers who supported the NDC during trying times and that "if you don't have time for them now, they will also not have time for us during the elections". He urged government appointees not to lose sight of the fact that they were in those positions because the NDC was able to win power in 2008, for which reason they should make time to meet with party supporters to explain issues to them. Mr Coker said the NDC government would never renege on its promises made to the people of Ghana. He appealed to NDC supporters to refrain from the habit of seizing cars and public places of convenience, locking up offices and other practices which were unlawful and tended to bring the name of the party into disrepute.
