There are reports of tension in Agogo as angry residents and opinion leaders gather in front of the Omanhene, Nana Akuako Sarpong’s palace and vowed to forcefully evict Fulani herdsmen from the town if nothing is done to get them to disappear peacefully.
The angry residents in their hundreds and some clad in red, told Adom News that they would no longer tolerate the herdsmen's wantonness in the area. They accused the herdsmen of committing all sorts of atrocities such as theft, destruction of farmland and property, assault and rape.
The demonstrators are angry over the fact that their Paramount Chief, Nana Akuoko Sarpong and his elders allegedly gave consent to the Fulani herdsmen to graze their cattle on farms.
They have therefore decided not to condone the continuous stay of the herdsmen.
Some of the leaders who led the demonstrators in an interview on Adom FM Midday News said they have had to witness their women being raped, destruction of their farm produce and sometimes killings from these people.
“My name is Ohene Amoah, I am the Secretary of Agogo Residents Association. All we are saying is that Nana and the Traditional Council have signed documents that have given them permit and as I talk to you, we cannot go to the farm, our wives who try to go to farm are raped, these cattle destroy our farm produce, Nana and the Traditional Council should withdraw the lease they have given these people”, complained one of the elders.
The tension is said to have reached its peak due to the alleged terror activities of the Fulani herdsmen, who are said to be armed to the teeth and are trigger-happy, thus rendering some of the areas a no-go zone.
The about 67,000 cattle in the area are said to be wreaking havoc, while farmers and hunters, reportedly now go unarmed or conceal their guns for fear of being used as targets for the herdsmen.
